Bird House

Here’s an unusual spot for a piece of public art: Someone’s lawn.

Artist Nancy Sims’ piece, called “Bird House,” is on display in front of a house at 4101 Longfellow St. in Hyattsville’s Historic District.

It was part of a series of bird sculptures placed around the county co-sponsored by the Prince George’s Arts Council and the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission in 2002.

In all, 75 sculptures were made using the same basic shape, an eastern blue bird, the official bird of Prince George’s County. The program was called, “Birds-I-View.”
