A local company has brought a little bit of Vermont to Hyattsville.

Berliner Specialty Distributors, which is located on four acres across the train tracks behind Franklin’s Restaurant, was recently awarded a contract to be the largest distributor of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream in the U.S.

According to the Washington Business Journal, Berliner recently became a major distributor for Unilever ice cream brands including Ben & Jerry’s, Good Humor, Klondike and others.

Established in 1973, Berliner pioneered the introduction of gourmet ice cream throughout the mid-Atlantic and also helped introduce more environmentally friendly freezers for Ben & Jerry’s in 2011.
