The Historic District’s Bed and Breakfast

The Historic District has its very own bed and breakfast.

A Hyattsville couple has listed a home on 37th Avenue on Airbnb, a popular online site for booking B&B stays. Judging from the pages of positive comments, the house and its hosts are a treat.

According to the listing, the owners, identified only as Gillian and Boe, are a Canadian couple who have traveled around the world extensively.

“When we are not globe-trotting we like to get the same kind of experience by hosting guests in our home,” they write.

The home is described as a “renovated, modern Cape Cod home” with an English garden, a private patio with an outdoor fireplace and a hot tub. It was even nominated for “most spectacular house and garden” on the 2012 Hyattsville historic home tour.

There are a number of B&Bs in Hyattsville, but most have kept a low profile since they have been illegal under the current zoning. Last I heard, the City Council was making tentative steps toward asking the County Council to adjust the zoning to allow them under certain circumstances. Does anyone know the status of that effort?
