Dance Studio Coming to Downtown

A dance studio that will offer classes for kids and adults is coming to downtown Hyattsville.

Ballet, Tap and All That Jazz plans to open in the Professional Building on Gallatin Street in mid-October, said owner S. Rene Hoffler. The location is the former home to the yarn shop A Tangled Skein.

Hoffler is a middle-school teacher in Prince George’s County and previously worked in Fairfax County. She’s also danced for 30 years, and she’s already hired five other instructors.

Classes will be in ballet, jazz, tap and modern dance, with some courses aimed at kids 3 and up and others for adults. She also plans a lunchtime yoga class, putting her in competition with Yoga Space down the road, and possibly an after-school program as well.

“We’re just getting things ready,” she told the Hyattsville Wire. “I have the mirrors and they’ll probably be installed next week. The barres will be installed Sunday, so we’re just waiting for the inspector.”

Hoffler, who grew up in Hyattsville and now lives in Upper Marlboro, said she was attracted by the new homes in the area, the new businesses like Busboys and Poets and the arts focus. But the main driver was more personal.

“I asked my mother where I should go, and she said Hyattsville,” she said. “And I listen to my mother.”
