Franklins Restaurant and Brewery knows a thing or two about funky, so it’s not surprising that its One of Those Funky Thangs Wild Ale got high marks.
The Washington City Paper had some sweet words for the sour taste of the Hyattsville institution’s latest house beer:
One of Those Funky Thangs, named after the Parliament song, is the second in Roy’s funk series. The Belgian dark ale spent two years in a red wine Bordeaux barrel with a blend of three bacteria strains and was then bottle-conditioned for five months. The complex beer’s cherry, plum, and sour candy aromas give way to flavors that are mouth-puckeringly tart at first but mellow with each sip as more roast and oak come through.
On the other side of funky, Franklins also recently brewed a beer named Save Our Saucer pale ale, named for the grassroots effort to spare the entrance to the Hyattsville public library.
