The new Safeway at University Town Center will also bring some more retail space.

Ryan Wilner, who is marketing the space for KLNB Retail, said they are looking for new ground-floor retail tenants and either retail or “quasi-retail” tenants for the second floor.

“We have a number of deals working and will be able to announce them further once the leases are signed this quarter,” he told the Hyattsville Wire in an email. “We plan to open the project in 2015.”

A flyer for the properties shows 8,700 square feet of divisible retail space along America Boulevard, with another 9,000 square feet on a second floor above that. In the southeastern corner of the property is a 4,600 square foot space marked “beer/wine store,” with a similar amount of space on a second floor.

Incidentally, that beer and/or wine store may need a similar exemption to the state law about nearby churches that Yes! Organic Grocery got, since it’s right next to the Hyattsville Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
