Art Works Vows to Try Again

art workssmArt Works will try again for a permit to renovate the dilapidated Marche Florist building on Route 1.

The nonprofit children’s art studio, currently located in Mount Rainier, had put its plans on hold following a December decision that the building is a historic site.

In a message on its Facebook page, Art Works said it will file an appeal of the ruling on the site’s historic status while also meeting with historic preservation commissioners on Jan. 21 to discuss design plans:

It is our hope that, one way or another, all parties concerned will be able to creatively arrive at a solution to the challenges before us.

We are confident that Art Works and Pizzeria Paradiso will make their homes in Hyattsville in 2014 with great thanks to our community of support.

Starting at 1 p.m. today, Art Works will be holding a Claymation camp, where kids will make short films using the same techniques used in Wallace and Gromit — the kind of unique and artsy activity  the group will hopefully soon be doing in the Marche building.
