You can already get bubble tea in quite a few spots in College Park: Ten Ren’s, Kung Fu Tea and Wasabi Bistro, most notably.
But the latest addition will up the game considerably.
Taiwanese bubble tea chain Gong Cha, as recently featured in the Washingtonian, has more than 1,500 locations around the world and two Hong Kong natives Edward Yo and Gary Ngo are opening up new locations in Rockville, Washington, D.C. and Terrapin Row at College Park.
The chain focuses on standard flavors like oolong, taro and lychee allowing customers to select the exact amount of sweetness and a trademark creamy, salty milk foam.
Yo and Ngo also own the popular poke spot Poki DC and plan to bring poke bowls to the College Park location at the same time, the first place on the Route 1 corridor to offer the trendy Hawaiian seafood dish.
Gong Cha, which opens in July, is just the latest example of why College Park’s dining scene is so interesting thanks to the university’s diverse student body. It’s also another example of an interesting international chain coming to the Route 1 corridor, joining the likes of BonChon, Nando’s and Pollo Campero.
And the area’s continuing development is fast making it a foodie haven.
