Riverdale Park Station will soon have two different bike sharing stations.
As we noted previously, the Whole Foods shopping center is getting a Capital Bikeshare station (now set to open on Friday, June 1, after a slight delay).
But plans are also in the works for Riverdale Park Station to get an mBike station, the popular College Park bikeshare system, which will be located near the Gold’s Gym.
A representative for Cushman & Wakefield, a commercial real estate services firm which is managing the development, told the Hyattsville Wire that an mBike station is coming in “a few months.”
It’s hard to imagine that there are too many people with memberships in both, but it’s helpful to have two stations close together like this, especially at a shopping center right off the Rhode Island Avenue Trolley Trail.
mBike could prove especially useful for residents of the nearby row homes, since it also has a stop at the College Park Metro Station.
The station also has a public bike repair stand and lots of bike racks.
It makes sense for Riverdale Park Station to do all this. A 2016 survey of Capital Bikeshare members found that 80% said they were more likely to patronize businesses that are accessible by bikeshare. Other studies have shown similar effects.
