Five Below opened its doors today just in time for summer in a newly constructed part of the Mall at Prince Georges in Hyattsville, which is currently undergoing a $30 million renovation.
The latest store opening at the mall is a tween- and teen-targeted retailer that sells most items for five dollars or less with a seemingly endless amount of outdoor toys and sports accessories for kids of all ages. This is a must-stop before you head to the beach.
Five Below, which is located adjacent to TJ Maxx with parking-lot access only, joins a lineup of other retailers and dining options that have opened at the mall with more establishments yet to come.
Express Factory Outlet opened its doors on June 18; Mezeh Mediterranean Grill, a D.C. area fast-casual Mediterranean food chain and the popular D.C. eatery &pizza are aiming to open this summer. Forever 21 will be opening in 2019.
As part of the renovation, more than 70 percent of the storefronts at the mall are either new or have been renovated according to a recent Washington Business Journal article about the mall’s renovations.
A spokesperson for PREIT, the owner of the shopping center, said the mall now does more than $513 per square foot in sales annually, a feat for a mall without an Apple store, and growth continued even during construction, which is also rare. PREIT also said that the Mall at Prince George’s has the highest-grossing food court among its 21 shopping centers.
Five Below will hold an official grand opening celebration on Friday, June 22.
