A long-delayed townhome project is finally moving ahead along the Route 1 corridor in College Park.

Signs appeared recently near the intersection of Baltimore Avenue and Cherokee Street, just north of the University Boulevard overpass, advertising Metropolitan at College Park, “luxury urban-style townhomes” with two-car garages.

City staff confirmed to the Hyattsville Wire that Metropolitan is the new name for a project previously called called The Boulevard and Jefferson Square.

Now being developed by Virginia-based CalAtlantic Homes, a division of Lennar, the project will have 75 townhomes and a multi-family building with retail along Baltimore Avenue.

Construction is underway on the townhomes while the company seeks financing for the multi-family portion of the project. The property was previously the site of a small, one-story commercial building facing Baltimore Avenue with woods in the rear.

Townhomes have become popular along Route 1 in recent years with developments such as Arts District Hyattsville, Editor’s Park, Riverdale Park Station and Greenbelt Station and upcoming projects like Riverfront at West Hyattsville Metro.
