As you can guess from the name, The Board and Brew has a great selection of board games and coffee, tea, craft beer and wine.
But the College Park cafe also has a surprisingly good menu, too.
Since opening in 2014 on the first floor of the Varsity student housing, The Board and Brew has become an especially popular spot for gamers. An on-site “game guru” helps make the more than 700 games accessible to beginners.
But the cafe’s menu, which includes food made from scratch from locally sourced ingredients, has evolved over the past several years.
Breakfast options include an egg sandwich with sourdough, pesto, mozzarella and tomato; steel-cut oatmeal; and a stack of pancakes. Lunch and dinner options include a cremini and blue cheese quesadilla, fried pickled chips, a D’Anjou pear salad and Korean cole slaw, just to name a few.
Desserts range from a flourless chocolate cake, chocolate banana bread pudding and an affogato made with Silver Spring’s premium small-batch ice cream maker Moorenko’s.
That’s on top of a drink menu that includes fun options like handmade lavender lemon mint soda, kombucha, Kyoto-drip cold brew, strawberry blonde ale and prosecco. We also noticed that service was very prompt.
For those looking for a late-night option, the cafe is open until 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday and until 1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. That’s much later than a lot of other dining options along the Route 1 corridor and their food doesn’t dissapoint.
