The dining scene on the Route 1 corridor keeps getting more interesting.
Several new eateries have opened recently, and several more are on the way. All add some intriguing new options for local diners.
Here’s a quick look at what’s just opened that we haven’t written about already.
Frutta Bowl-College Park: Located in the same building as the Varsity student housing in College Park, Frutta Bowl is a New Jersey-based chain that serves Açaí bowls, the super-trendy South American superfood that’s Instagram-ready.
The Red Boat Viet Fusion-College Park: Planned in the strip next to Nando’s in College Park, The Red Boat Viet Fusion is a Baltimore-based chain serves everything from pho to bahn mi to Korean tacos. Opened in late August.

Savor at Studio 3807-Brentwood: Located on the ground floor of an upcoming apartment building in Brentwood, Savor at Studio 3807 will feature D.C. Sweet Potato Cake; a health conscious spot; local honey, produce and jam; and craft beer, wine and liquor. Think of it as a mini Union Market. Scheduled to open late summer.
Taqueria Habanero-College Park: Planned for a space in the Campus Village Shoppes in College Park, Taqueria Habanero is a popular taqueria from Washington’s 14th Street corridor that makes corn tortillas on site daily. Scheduled to open this fall.
Cava Mezze Grill-College Park: Planned for the space formerly occupied by Radio Shack in a College Park shopping center, Cava is a popular Rockville-based fast-casual chain that takes a Chipotle approach to Mediterranean cuisine. Scheduled to open this fall.
Marco & Polo-Hyattsville: Planned for the space next to Old Dominion BrewHouse at University Town Center, Marco & Polo will serve traditional Uyghur and Uzbek cuisine and have occasional music and “cultural entertainment.” Scheduled to open this fall.
Mezeh Mediterranean Grill-Hyattsville: Planned for one of the outward-facing spots at the Mall at Prince Georges, Mezeh is a D.C. area fast-casual chain that aims to do for Mediterranean food what Chipotle did for Mexican. Scheduled to open in September.
Vie Café-Hyattsville: Located in the Vie Towers apartment building at University Town Center in Hyattsville, Vie Café will serve Cuban coffee from Grand Havana Coffee, Art of Tea teas and food from local vendors, including baked goods, sandwiches, salads and vegan options. Scheduled to open this fall.
Pennyroyal Station-Mount Rainier: Planned for the Singer Building in Mount Rainier, the much-anticipated bar and restaurant from the owners of the popular Bar Pilar and Café Saint-Ex restaurants in D.C. is expected to open this fall.
Denizens Brewing Co.-Riverdale Park: Planned for a 12,000-square-foot space at Riverdale Park Station, Denizens Brewing Co. will serve draft beers, craft cocktails and locally made spirits from Republic Restoratives, a small-batch distillery in D.C., as well as food. Scheduled to open by the end of the year.
Riviera Tapas Bar-Riverdale Park: Planned for the former home of S&J Restaurant in Riverdale Park, Riviera Tapas Bar will serve a fusion of American, Spanish and Mexican tapas in contemporary and traditional cooking styles. Scheduled to open this fall.
And that’s not to mention a slew of other places soon to open in College Park that are aimed at University of Maryland students, including Taiwanese bubble tea chain Gong Cha, Korean fast-casual chain SeoulSpice, Hawaiian poke place Poki District, casual Taiwanese restaurant Cheers Cut, chicken wings joint Wings Over and the recently opened pan-Asian Ten Asian Food Hall.
