A new upscale apartment complex recently opened near the Prince George’s Plaza Metro station.
Located on the former Editor’s Press site at 3401 East West Highway in Hyattsville, The Edition has everything from 577-square-foot studios to 1,445-square-foot three-bedroom apartments.
The complex has been open and renter-occupied for the past month, leasing about 50 of the 300 or so total apartments, a representative told the Hyattsville Wire.
The development joins similar upscale apartments built in recent years within the crucial half-mile of the Metro station, including Mosaic at Metro, Post Park and 3350 at Alterra. Developers are also finishing Lync at Alterra behind the Mall at Prince Georges and converting a 10-story office building at University Town Center for residential use.
Apartments are booming in the greater Washington area, with one recent survey putting D.C. among the top 10 U.S. cities adding new rental units in 2018. A lot of that is being driven by high demand from millennials who are saddled with student loan and credit card debt and want flexible living arrangements so that they can move easily for work.
It’s also due to preferences for more urban-style living, with millennials looking more for neighborhoods where they can walk to a Metro station, restaurants and shopping and putting off buying cars.
