Rugged Wearhouse to Close in College Park

Rugged Wearhouse College Park retailer

Rugged Wearhouse is closing its location in College Park at the end of the month.

The parent company of the discount home and clothing retailer appears to be shuttering and rebranding many of its 45 locations, some of which are reopening under the banner of its sister store Gabe’s.

That includes the College Park location. Chris Wilkinson with real estate investment trust JBG Smith, which owns the shopping center, said the space is 12,000 square feet and that the shopping center was open to “a variety of uses” for the space.

Along with a CVS pharmacy, Rugged Wearhouse had been an anchor tenant for several years in the College Park Shopping Center, a 76,000-square-foot strip mall which has recently undergone some minor facade renovations.

With ample parking and an increase in foot traffic due to new student housing nearby — not to mention about 25,000 cars passing by along Route 1 daily — the Rugged Wearhouse spot should be a promising location for the right retailer.

It’s been more than several years those have been anchor stores- those have been there at least 20 years. Rugged went from carrying name brand to lesser and lesser quality stuff. No way to keep up with the lease prices with such cheap stuff.
