Kaizen Teriyaki to Open in Arts District Hyattsville

A fast-casual sushi and teriyaki restaurant is headed to the Shoppes at Arts District Hyattsville and is scheduled to open by mid-February.

A representative of Kaizen Teriyaki told the Hyattsville Wire that they are just waiting on their final permits to open at 5501 Baltimore Ave., Suite 103, in the former location of the Hair Cuttery next to Chipotle and Tara Thai.

Kaizen will offer standard American sushi rolls (California, salmon avocado, Philadelphia), a selection of its own fusion rolls (Dynamite Roll: fried salmon, crab meat and avocado with eel sauce and spicy mayo) and teriyaki (chicken, beef, salmon and shrimp).

Sides include miso soup, seaweed salad, edamame, spring rolls, fried dumplings and shrimp tempura.

Though Asian restaurants have proliferated in College Park, there’s not a great local teriyaki carryout place yet, so Kaizen is a welcome addition. The name, which is Japanese for the process of continuous improvement.

At 1,132 square feet, its space is smaller than any of the other restaurants in the shopping center — roughly half the size of Chipotle.
