A long-awaited Spanish-Mexican restaurant has joined Riverdale Park’s growing dining scene.
Area resident Hugo Bonilla has opened Riviera Tapas with a limited menu during its soft launch, with more menu items to be added in the coming days.
The full menu posted on the restaurant’s website includes appetizers like bacon-wrapped dates stuffed with white cheddar, grilled asparagus with olive oil and calimari with sriracha aioli; entrees like grilled shrimp tacos, seafood paella and chuleta de credo; a selection of cured meats and cheeses and flan and tres leches for dessert.
Located in the former S&J bar building, Riviera is part of a renaissance for the historic downtown, including Banana Blossom Bistro, the Bikram Hot Yoga studio and the expanded Riverdale Town Market.
Located right off the Rhode Island Avenue Trolley Trail and just around the corner from the bustling Riverdale Park Station, the area has long held potential, but businesses like Robert Harper Books (now relocated to historic downtown Hyattsville) struggled while other storefronts sat vacant.
With Riviera Tapas opening just days after Banana Blossom Bistro’s opening, the two new restaurants may be just the thing to draw more visitors to the area.
