Pennyroyal Station Aims for November Opening

The long wait for Pennyroyal Station may soon be over.

The restaurant, which will be located in the Singer Building in Mount Rainier, is now expected to open as soon as early November, owner Garrick Lumsden, formerly of Passion Food LLC., told the Hyattsville Wire.

“My heart is saying it will be an early November opening, but my head can’t confirm that,” he said. “Things are moving along. We just passed a major inspection so we are getting closer to an opening date.”

Intensive reconstruction on the interior of the former bank, which dates back to 1936, has been the main reason for the delayed opening of a restaurant that’s been hotly anticipated since 2017.

Pennyroyal Station will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, with dishes like manicotti made with chanterelles, English peas, ricotta and black truffle and fried chicken biscuits stuffed with ham. There will be 73 seats inside and another 60 on an outdoor patio.

Chef Jesse Miller, formerly of the popular Hemingway-themed Bar Pilar in D.C., has also created several paintings for the restaurant inspired by its past as a streetcar stop.
