Hyattsville’s Shortcake Bakery to Offer Brunch

Shortcake Bakery will offer two pop-up brunches in October and November as it prepares to roll out Sunday brunch on a regular basis next year.

The Hyattsville bakery, located at 4700 Rhode Island Ave., will hold a soft launch of its brunch menu on Sunday, Oct. 20 with two seatings. Reservations can be made for either 10 a.m. or 12:30 p.m.

Owner Cheryl Harrington told the Hyattsville Wire that she’ll then tweak the menu based on customer feedback and hold a second brunch on Sunday, Nov. 16. Afterwards, she’ll take a break for the holidays and begin offering brunch every Sunday starting in January 2020.

Harrington is currently taking reservations for the Oct. 20 pop-up brunch and already a half-dozen customers have reserved space.

She said she’s been thinking about offering brunch for a year, and decided to go ahead after meeting French-trained chef Sergio Pembro. The two plan to offer all the traditional brunch menu items as well as some different small plates, a fusion of some sort, drawing on his family’s background in the Caribbean and Gabon.

“It’ll be something a little different,” she said.

Reservations can be made by emailing shortcakebakery@gmail.com.
