A new artist-oriented apartment complex in Brentwood will open in January 2020.
Located at 4100 Rhode Island Ave., Artisan 4100 will feature studio and two-bedroom apartments along with music studios, a gallery and other arts-oriented spaces including retail.
The new complex is being constructed by Landex Development, which also built the Studio 3807 apartments and townhomes on the other side of Rhode Island Avenue just up the street.
Landex CEO Peter Siegel said the development is offering low rent to arts-oriented tenants to make sure the Gateway Arts District “remains a true artists community.”
“I don’t want to bus in artists,” he said.
The success of Studio 3807 shows there is a pent-up demand along the Route 1 corridor for more of this kind of apartment living. Artisan 4100 will have a more intimate feel than Studio 3807 and will include amenities such as a yoga studio, a bikeshare stop, electric car charging stations and free wifi.
Siegel said the new Artisan 4100 apartments will also help expand the customer base for nearby restaurants and shops, spurring further development along the Route 1 corridor.
The Highline, a similar project, is also finishing up in Hyattsville’s University Town Center, in which a 1968 office building is being converted to apartments with co-working spaces, a music studio and a “makers space.”
