The first food hall in Prince George’s County and the second African American-run food hall in the United States is opening today in Brentwood through Sunday, Oct. 20 for a soft launch, with the hours of 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.
Savor at Studio 3807 at 3807 Rhode Island Ave., brings a popular recent trend to the Route 1 corridor: a sprawling indoor space where restaurateurs, chefs and others can show off their latest culinary delicacies and art designs while experimenting with new offerings.
The 8,500-square-foot space will host seven restaurants and markets under one roof, including the experimental Uncaged Chefs; Little Miner Taco; and Luvplates Soul and Grill, a Caribbean restaurant.
It also includes a bakery, D.C. Sweet Potato Cake Cafe; a cocktail bar, Community Cocktail; a coffee roaster, Redemption Roasters; an “indoor mini farmer’s market,” Relish Market; an artisanal home goods store, Curated DMV; and a “plant-based food apothecary,” Voss Food.
It’s also flexible. Space is available for groups to rent for an event, there’s a spot for a pop-up restaurant and an area for a music stage.
Owner and founder April Richardson, a business lawyer, works with vendors on everything from refining their concept to filing their legal paperwork. The goal is to serve as an incubator, allowing new restaurants and shops to build a customer base and refine their business strategy before they move into their own space.
That’s a huge deal in Brentwood, parts of which are considered a “food desert” by the U.S. Department of Agriculture; an area with poor access to fresh and healthy food. But it will also be a great way for the rapidly growing foodie culture along the Route 1 corridor to develop organically.
Richardson told the Hyattsville Wire that she started Savor after her business, D.C. Sweet Potato Cake, wasn’t accepted into other food halls in the greater D.C. area. She worked with Landex Development, which provided startup funding and a location at the center of its two new apartment complexes.
Savor, located on the first floor of the Studio 3807 apartment complex, will hold its soft launch through Sunday, Oct. 20, then have its official grand opening and ribbon cutting on Thursday, Oct. 24 from 9:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Not all of the restaurants will be open during the soft launch, but you can try the Uncaged Chefs, Little Miner Taco and Voss Food.
There is limited parking in the garage at 39th and Rhode Island Avenue and free street parking in the area.
To inquire about becoming a vendor at Savor, long on to their website and complete an application.
