Homemade Pop Tarts Come to Hyattsville

You can now get the trendiest bakery item since the cupcake comeback right here in Hyattsville: the homemade pop tart.

For the last few years, the humble pop tart has become a hot-ticket everywhere from Ted’s Bulletin in D.C. to the hipper neighborhoods of Seattle and Los Angeles.

Now you can pick one up at Kahvie in University Town Center at 6515 Belcrest Rd.

As of last weekend, the coffee shop has started stocking wild berry pop tarts made by Bakers & Baristas, an independent cafe in D.C. For now, staff are driving into D.C. to pick them up fresh every other day.

But general manager Shandis Vaughan told the Hyattsville Wire that given how fast they’re selling out, they will possibly start picking them up every day and stocking more flavors. The pop tarts cost $3.50.

Kahvie now also uses its own exclusive, custom blend coffee from Charlottesvilla, Va.-based independent roaster Lone Light Coffee.

Meantime, Kahvie is expanding, opening a new coffee shop in San Marcos, Texas, called Kavhie Lofts.
