WeWork’s College Park location is dog-friendly, leading some of its members to bring their pooches to work.
Not every WeWork allows animals, mostly because of pre-existing policies in the buildings where they lease space.
But in Japan and parts of the United States, it has proven to be a popular amenity, even leading to hashtags like “Dogs of WeWork.” The concrete floors are designed to be easier to clean off dog hair.
The College Park location even has a small station called the “UMD Center for Barkeology” with free dog biscuits and bowls filled with water. On a recent weekday, a nine-week-old miniature poodle named Sienna was spotted hanging out in the main common area.
The benefits work in both directions. Dog owners say it gives their pets a chance to get out and socialize rather than staying home alone, while other members say they like having a dog around the office.
Office dogs have become popular with younger workers and may even help keep people healthier. As the Centers for Disease Control notes, pets help reduce blood pressure and other markers of stress.
To bring your dog to WeWork in College Park, you have to provide vaccination papers or service dog paperwork. They must be housebroken and are permitted only in private offices or on a leash in common areas.
