Why Hyattsville’s Pizzeria Paradiso is Here to Stay

Pizzeria Paradiso owner Ruth Gresser says the Hyattsville location of the popular D.C. pizza chain makes her sentimental.

“The Hyattsville location has a very similar feel to our original Dupont Circle location that we opened in November 1991 in a little townhouse that sat 35 people,” she told the Hyattsville Wire.

After Labor Day, Hyattsville’s Pizzeria Paradiso switched their hours, closing on Mondays and Tuesdays, based on their experience of what the neighborhood wants and when they want it.

The hours sparked some concern on a local listserv about the future of the much-loved local restaurant, which recently won the Hyattsville Wire’s annual reader poll for best pizza for the second year in a row.

But Gresser said that each of their five locations has its own set hours based on what works best for the particular neighborhood that they are in. With Streetcar 82 Brewing Co. also closed on Mondays and Tuesdays and Maryland Meadworks closed Mondays through Wednesdays, she said it makes sense — for now.

“A lot more is coming to Hyattsville, and as more businesses open along the strip and more things happen in the area, we will adjust our hours,” she said. “But no one should have any concern about the restaurant. We will be in Hyattsville for a very long time.”
