Hot Yoga Studio Opens Pop-Up in College Park

A Maryland hot yoga studio recently opened up a pop-up in College Park.

As part of its Wandering Ruah program, Annapolis-based Ruah Studio has set up temporary location at 3711 Campus Dr., next to the Domain apartments.

Hot yoga first became popular in the U.S. in the 1970s. It generally consists of yoga poses done in a room that is heated to over 100 degrees, which some practitioners believe helps with stretching and contributes to a euphoric feeling afterward.

While yoga and barre studios along the Route 1 corridor — OpenBarre Studios and Numi Yoga in College Park and Yoga Space and Love Yoga in Hyattsville as well as Joe’s Movement Emporium in Mount Rainier are all popular — the only official hot yoga place has been at Bikram Yoga Works in Riverdale Park though Numi Yoga does offer fiver heated classes each week.

With so many college students and young professionals along the Route 1 corridor, there’s certainly room for another yoga studio, especially a hot yoga studio, so don’t be surprised if Ruah opens permanently in the area.

Drop-ins at Ruah in College Park are $10 and an unlimited monthly membership is $60. The pop-up has a regularly updated Instagram page.
