A popular Prince George’s County food truck will open a brick-and-mortar restaurant at University Town Center in the coming weeks.
A Place to Walk to, which specializes in gourmet versions of comfort food classics, has been serving everything from chicken and waffles to shrimp and grits to macaroni and cheese around the county since 2016.
Owner Matt Samuels told the Hyattsville Wire that he hopes to open on Sunday, Jan. 26, at 6451 America Boulevard, across from Qdoba.
“People can expect great food, a family atmosphere and great service from people that overly care about the product they stand behind,” he said. “And overall, you can expect endless specials trying different recipes and cuisines challenging our audience’s palates.”
Samuels said many of the recipes from his Guyanese grandmother, as well as his mother and two brothers. A former Division 1 college basketball player, had been doing contract work for the federal government when he decided to open the food truck.
A Place to Walk To was frequently seen in Riverdale Park and Greenbelt, at festivals as well as schools and private events across the greater D.C. area, though Samuels says the Greenbelt food truck hub did the best business.
He said the aim of the food truck, which will reopen in the summer or fall, was “restaurant-quality food on the go.”
“From our preparation to our plating using farm-to-table fresh products, I feel we are challenging the carry-out experience and what that looks and tastes like,” he said.
Prince George’s County recently loosened strict regulations that hampered the growth of food trucks in the area. The success of A Place to Walk To shows why they are an important incubator for new restaurants.
