Hyattsville Coworking Space to Open Next Week

A new coworking space is slated to open next week in Hyattsville, just around the corner from Vigilante Coffee.

Located at 4328 Farragut Street, A\Work will tweak the familiar model for coworking spaces by allowing anyone to drop in for a day without the need for a monthly membership.

Co-owner Stephen Jeffrey told the Hyattsville Wire the A\Work coworking concept was an idea architect Garth Rockcastle had when he owned the building as founding principal of Meyer, Scherer & Rockcastle, Ltd., (MSR Design), which has since relocated. Rockcastle is also a professor at the University of Maryland who developed the condos on the building’s top floor years ago. When Jeffrey purchased the building from Garth over the summer they began working together on the A\Work idea to turn it into a reality and now it’s a joint project between the two.

The 6,000-square-foot floorplan will include open membership spaces, dedicated desks, private offices, as well as rooms for special events. There will even be a “dream room” designed to help you find inspiration.

Jeffrey told the Hyattsville Wire that they are working on communal space outside with space heaters soon and that in the coming months they hope to build out their outdoor space to include a performance stage and courtyard. Jeffrey said there will even be an A\Rest space where people working long hours can stay overnight with full accommodations.

He said they are aiming to officially open Thursday, Jan. 30 with plans to hold a large community gathering in the spring for their official grand opening.

A\Work joins a growing trend of coworking and event spaces popping up along the Route 1 corridor in recent years including Distinctly Creative in Mount Rainier, Dream Village and Campspace, also in Hyattsville, and WeWork in College Park.
