Longtime College Park Hangout D.P. Dough Closes

Longtime College Park hangout D.P. Dough’s last day of business will be Thursday, Jan. 30, from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m., the latest long-time institution to shutter along the Route 1 corridor.

The Columbus, Ohio-based calzone chain announced it would close on Instagram.

“It’s not good bye. It’s see ya later,” the Instagram read. “After serving calzones for 20 years in College Park, we will be closing our doors for the last time Thursday night. It’s been an amazing journey, but all good things must come to an end.”

University of Maryland students and alums mourned the closing on social media. Similar outpourings have come when student hangout Ratsie’s Pizza closed to make way for Nando’s Peri Peri in 2015 and when the owners of Ledo restaurant put it up for sale this year. Students have voiced similar concerns about Marathon Deli, which is located in a building set to be torn down, although the developers said they are working with the owners to keep it in business.

The reason for the closure of D.P. Dough is unclear, although the restaurant chain recently merged with a competitor run by a former employee, and the new management said it would review all of the locations.

Both chains focus heavily on late-night crowds in college towns.
