A new preschool will open this summer in College Park.

The University of Maryland Child Development Center will serve 120 children from ages six weeks through five years old, with an infant classroom, a toddler classroom for two-year-olds, a preschool classroom and a kindergarten prep classroom.

Based on the Montessori method, the preschool will feature music, a garden, yoga and dancing alongside learning the alphabet, numbers and science.

“At Bright Horizons we believe that environment is the key to creating a joyful place for childhood; and we put a great deal of thought and care into creating those joyful places,” Director Christina Cross writes.

A partnership with Bright Horizons Early Education and Preschool and the University of Maryland, the preschool will be located at 4601 Calvert Road.

It will be open to full-time University of Maryland students and employees as well as families who live in College Park. The partnership calls for the center to enroll at least 14 children from College Park who are not affiliated with the university, with the rest distributed first to students and staff.
