Being off our routine and sheltering-in-place makes staying fit harder than ever.
But luckily, the closure of gyms and other fitness studios across Maryland earlier this week has led many fitness studios along the Route 1 corridor to get creative.
Yoga classes are going online. Fitness coaches are giving home workout instructions. And kickboxing instructors are posting videos.
In some cases, the courses are free. Others are charging small fees to help keep revenue coming in at a time when many on the corridor are staying at home.
Here’s a quick look at what local fitness studios are offering online.
The Rooted Center in Beltsville is holding free online yoga classes on Zoom twice daily Mondays through Fridays and 10 a.m. on Saturdays.
Joe’s Movement Emporium in Mount Rainier is sharing kids movement classes with Mr. Skipp on Vimeo.
Posh Cycling & Fitness Studios in College Park has started sharing streaming videos of their workouts on Zoom.
Open Barre Studios in College Park is sharing one online class every other day for as long as it can for a cost of $15 per month.
Numi Yoga in College Park has started a near-daily email newsletter with short meditations and breathing exercises to help you deal with stress.
Wandering Ruah Studio, which recently started offering classes in College Park, is livestreaming yoga classes on Zoom with an asking price of $8 per class.
Orangetheory Fitness in College Park is sharing 30-minute workouts with coaches from around the world every day.
Bikram Yoga Works in Riverdale Park is posting instructional videos from some of its staffers on Facebook.
Love Yoga Studio in Hyattsville is holding live video classes through this Friday and may extend them further.
PG CrossFit in Hyattsville is offering free virtual community workouts.
Planet Fitness in Hyattsville is showcasing free in-home workouts on Facebook Live every day at 7 p.m. Eastern.
I Love Kickboxing in Hyattsville is posting at-home workouts everyday in its VIP group, a Facebook group you can ask to join.
Espaço Cultural Samba Trovão is offering free online kids Capoeira Angola and other classes on Zoom.
Meanwhile, Golds Gym in Riverdale Park has temporarily closed due to concerns over the coronavirus pandemic.
