Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks signed an executive order requiring shoppers, beginning Wednesday, April 15, to wear a face mask when going into a county grocery store, pharmacy or major chain store, or riding a county public bus, starting Wednesday.

The order also requires grocery stores, pharmacies and major retailers to promote social distancing rules like staying six feet apart when waiting in lines inside and outside.

“For the protection of employees who work in these establishments, as well as the customers who need these essential services, it is critical that each person does their part to cover their faces and minimize their exposure to others,” she said in a statement.

Under the rules, customers may cover their face with a mask, homemade mask, bandana or scarf, although critics say bandanas and scarfs tend to slip, causing you to touch your face more than recommended.

Similar facial mask orders went into effect in Montgomery County Monday and in D.C. last week.
