2Fifty Texas BBQ is moving ahead with its brick-and-mortar restaurant in Riverdale Park, despite the coronavirus-related industry slowdown.
Owners Fernando and Debby González told the Hyattsville Wire that the barbecue restaurant recently received a key permit that had been under review since August, although there was a slight slowdown when indoor inspections were suspended.
“We are open for carry out only on Sundays momentarily, but we are adding more days of operation as circumstances around the pandemic allow us to do so,” said Fernando.
It’s still unclear when restaurants in Maryland will be able to open for sit-down service or what the rules will be, but Fernando and Debby said local architect Michael Romero has laid out different options for seating arrangements to meet social distancing requirements.
The restaurant, which had been vacant since 2012, includes artwork from local painters Mark Mitchell and Eileen Cave as well as art from the Annapolis Marine Art Gallery, photographs from local photographer Rick Ruggles and a Cherokee cattle horn from the Petty family. A lot of the decorations were recycled or upcycled.
The González pair also own neighboring Dumm’s Pizza, which has moved heavily into carryout and delivery during the pandemic. He said not only have they not laid off any staff, but they are now hiring a cashier.
With the help of Greater Riverdale Cares, they have also served 400 meals to needy families.
