Prince George’s County recently closed its coronavirus testing site in the parking lot of FedEx field and moved it to a clinic in Cheverly.

When it opened on March 30, the testing site at FedEx Field was a model for community testing, especially for people who don’t have a primary doctor.

More than 1,600 people were tested and 2,000 were screened at FedEx field, said County Executive Angela Alsobrooks in a statement.

But it couldn’t operate in windy weather, hampering operations.

The new facility is at the Cheverly Health Center at 3003 Hospital Drive. Its hours are Mondays through Fridays, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and they are able to test up to 200 people a day.

Testing is by appointment only. To schedule an appointment, call the county’s hotline at 301-883-6627 or go to health.mypgc.us/coronavirus.

A walk-in testing site is also open at MedStar Health Urgent Care in Hyattsville, but you need a doctor’s approval to get tested. You can call 301-276-8800 for more information. You can also first do a video visit online by going to: https://www.medstarhealth.org/medstar-health-evisit/

Alsobrooks is also looking to open two more sites in north and south Prince George’s County in the coming weeks.
