Prince George’s County Moves to Phase 2 of Reopening

Prince George’s County will move to a modified phase two of reopening from coronavirus-related lockdowns at 5 p.m. Monday, June 15.

Amid declining rates in new coronavirus cases, county officials decided to move ahead, two weeks after phase one of reopening began.

Here’s what you need to know about the new, looser restrictions:

Retail stores: Now open for in-store shopping, but only five people per 1,000 square feet are allowed and stores may not exceed 50 percent of capacity.

Barbershops and hair salons: By appointment only, also not to exceed 50% capacity, and workers must wear protective equipment such as face masks.

Nail salons: Workers must wear protective equipment, including face coverings and gloves. Only one customer per 200 square feet.

Restaurants: Outdoor seating allowed, indoor dining at 50 percent capacity. No more than six people at a table or 50 people overall. Employees must have regular health screenings.

Houses of worship: May open for services at 25 percent capacity. Drive-in and outdoor services of 250 people or less are allowed.

Child care: Child care facilities will be able to open for essential employees and for employees who are returning to work.

Pools: Outdoor polls only operate at 25 percent capacity and must practice proper social distancing guidelines. Indoor pools remain closed.

Car wash: May open with automated systems, but drivers and passengers must stay inside of the vehicles at all times.

Youth sports: Small groups are allowed with no more than nine children and one coach. No more than 50 people in any area.

Parks: Parks are open for personal fitness, fitness classes and low-contact sports. This includes all parks, fields, tennis courts, tracks, and golf courses.

Gyms and fitness centers, indoor pools, tattoo parlors, spas and massage parlors, amusement parks, casinos, indoor shopping malls and county government buildings remain closed.
