New Outdoor Workspace for the Public Opens in College Park

A new outdoor workspace in College Park gives members of the public a colorful place to sit down and get some work done when the weather is favorable.

Located between The Hall CP and WeWork, the new Discovery District Park features Adirondack chairs, swinging benches and metal chairs and tables along with free WiFi that connects to UMD’s network and The Hall CP’s.

Bright purple pergolas and red upright umbrellas offer shade, while string lights brighten up the space at night.

Sammy Popat, manager of the Discovery District research park, told the Hyattsville Wire the space was intended as an outdoor workspace for members of the public who might not be members of WeWork, customers of The Hall CP or guests of the Hotel at the University of Maryland, giving outsiders an opportunity to visit the area, meet others and get some work done.

The space has proven especially popular during the pandemic, when many people feel safer working outside.

The park is a joint project between the University of Maryland, which owns the land, and the Terrapin Development Company.
