Over four months into the coronavirus pandemic, many people are still nervous to get haircuts. Bananas has a solution: Outdoor haircuts.
Two stylists at the College Park hair salon will cut or color your hair while wearing masks in a chair in a shaded area of the parking lot.
“We just drag a chair out to a shady spot and do your hair!”stylist Kat Hellington wrote recently on the HOPE in Hyattsville listserv. “We wear masks and gloves, just like when we do hair inside.”
With business down due to the coronavirus, she added that the indoor salon is often fairly empty, so you can also get a haircut there.
Research shows getting a haircut can be safe if precautions are taken. At a hair salon in Missouri, two stylists saw nearly 140 clients before testing positive for coronavirus. But because both the stylists and the clients wore properly fitted masks (over the mouth and nose), not one of their customers later tested positive.
Outdoor haircuts are proving increasingly popular around the country amid the pandemic.
Kathleen cut my hair outside in June. It was easy and safe! And a good haircut.
So far two of us do hair outside. Myself(Kathleen aka Kat), and Katie. But your stylist might be willing to do your hair outside too! Just ask when you call for your appointment.
And thanks for this article! It’ll definitely help get the word out!
I got an outdoor haircut last week with Kathleen, one of the two Bananas stylists mentioned above. I felt comfortable with it. (And to give you a gauge of my risk tolerance, I wear a mask when I bike.) Plus Kathleen is a really skilled hair cutter.
Walked pass this establishment daily to get to my apartment and every night they leave ridiculous amounts (large piles) of Human Hair scattered around their store. It is quite gross to walk past/on (it typically covers the sidewalk). Hopefully they can start to clean that up for the sake of people who frequent that area.
Kathleen, Katie, and John have all done hair out doors. If you want to know if your stylist will just ask!
Bill, so sorry about the hair that was in advertently left outside! We have started sweeping it up. This outdoor haircut thing is relatively new so I think we just figured it would blow away? But yes, sometimes the bigger pieces just stayed right where they were So. Hopefully your view is better now. 🙂
