Franklins restaurant is adding a “tiki bar” later this month.
In keeping with its regular innovations during the coronavirus pandemic, the Hyattsville mainstay has poured some sand in its parking lot and prepped the hurricane glasses.
In a video, owner Mike Franklin said he hopes to put aqua-colored steel pillars, landscaping timbers, bamboo fencing, picnic tables made by local craftsmen and outdoor speakers to play music for that “tiki bar atmosphere.” The new space will be complete with real sand for an authentic feel.
“Our community prefers to be outside. What do we do to expand outdoor seating? The answer, of course, was there any doubt, build a tiki bar,” he said.
The tiki bar, which will be located under the bridge over Franklins parking lot at 5123 Baltimore Avenue, should be ready to open in the coming weeks, but no firm date is set yet.
If you don’t feel like heading out, Franklins will also deliver pre-mixed Hurricanes (Jamaican dark rum, lemon juice and passionfruit syrup) in a Mason jar that can make up to four cocktails when poured over ice for $24.
Franklins other next-day local alcohol delivery options also include growlers of its own beer, more than two dozen types of microbrews in bottles and cans, nearly 50 different types of wine, spirits and mixers.
