D.C. Entrepreneurs Seek to Take Over College Park’s MilkBoy ArtHouse

Crab and Turtle

Two D.C. entrepreneurs have applied to take over the liquor license at the now closed MilkBoy ArtHouse in College Park, but the change has been delayed.

Steuart Martens and Anna Valero first applied in mid-March with the Prince George’s County Board of License Commissioners to run a new business called the Crab and Turtle at MilkBoy’s location at 7416 Baltimore Ave.

They have since asked for two extensions, and the license is set to be discussed at the board’s Dec. 15 hearing.

Martens is a former “Apprentice” contestant who runs the ax-throwing venue Kraken Axes in Penn Quarter together with Valero. Valero is an events planner behind the Taste of D.C., which is owned by Martens, and Drink the District.

Through her company Pirate Ventures, Valero also runs Hook Hall, a 13,000-square-foot events space in the Park View neighborhood of D.C.

A joint venture with the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, MilkBoy ArtHouse hosted shows by an eclectic mix of musicians and served food and alcoholic drinks before closing in December of 2019. Before the pandemic, the University of Maryland had hoped to find a new operator by spring.
