A group of artists will make sidewalk chalk art along the Route 1 corridor this week to encourage residents to vote.
As part of a national effort called “Chalk the Vote,” the Common Collective artists group will make its own chalk art and help residents either make their own designs Thursday through Saturday.
Images of the chalk art will be shared online using the hashtags #chalkthevote and #route1chalks.
To participate, you can pick up free chalk at:
–Maryland Meadworks, 4700 Rhode Island Ave., Hyattsville, 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, 4 to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday
-Pyramid Atlantic Art Center, 4318 Gallatin St., Hyattsville, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday
–Green Owl Design, 5303 Baltimore Ave., Hyattsville
–Brentwood Arts Exchange, 3901 Rhode Island Ave., Brentwood, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday
“The intention is for chalk art/messages pop-up organically all along the corridor and neighborhoods as people decide what surfaces to activate,” Mount Rainier resident Natalie Fulgencio told the Hyattsville Wire. “We are encouraging all participants to engage everything from their front stoop and sidewalks to community shared spaces.”
