Listen to Route 1’s Grey Wulf Play ‘I Can See Clearly Now’

With the election officially decided, it’s now a time to set aside the stress and strife and look ahead to the future.

To help, the Hyattsville Wire met up with local band Grey Wulf earlier today to record this rendition of Johnny Nash’s “I Can See Clearly Now.”

Along with lead singer Freddy Lawson, Grey Wulf features Sam Hudson on bass guitar, vocals and woodwinds and Sully on drums.

Lawson picked the song, which has been on his mind since Nash’s death in early October.

“My favorite song changes on a daily basis, but I have loved ‘I Can See Clearly Now’ for a long time, it’s such an optimistic song and I definitely want to honor Johnny Nash after his recent passing,” he told the Wire.

Lawson, a longtime singer who picked up the guitar when he had pneumonia in 2009, works part-time at Hyattsville’s Just Rock, which now has a new location in Brentwood on the first floor of Artisan 4100, and is looking for a full-time job. He hopes Grey Wulf can get back to live performances soon.

“Covid has been very tough for independent musicians and artists, but we are resilient and creative,” he said. “We are thankful to everyone who is supporting the arts through these times.”
