Bagel Place in College Park to Raise Money to Stay Afloat

Another College Park institution is raising money to stay afloat during the coronavirus pandemic.

Started in 1983, the family-owned Bagel Place has served coffee, fresh-made bagels and deli sandwiches from a convenient corner spot at 7423 Baltimore Ave. to students and College Park residents seven days a week.

“We have done everything to survive so far including emptying our personal savings just to keep our doors open and our employees paid,” owner Bobby Karanovich wrote on a GoFundMe fundraiser launched this week. “With the continued loss of business and now going back to carry out only again, we are struggling to survive.”

As with the nearby Cornerstone bar and grill, the Bagel Place has been hurt by a lack of further economic assistance from Congress. It has already raised about $25,000 towards its goal of $85,000.
