Route 1 Corridor Marks the Holiday Season in Good Spirits

The Route 1 corridor is marking the holiday season in good spirits, despite all the limitations surrounding the coronavirus pandemic.

In Woodridge, D.C., entrepreneur Paul Winestock will be giving out toys, food and cupcakes in a socially distanced block next to Zeke’s Coffee at 2300 Rhode Island Ave., until 9 p.m. this evening, Dec. 19.

The food includes samples of what Winestock’s new restaurant will offer when it opens in January. The eatery, called His & Hers, will be located in the space formerly occupied by Momo Yakitori.

Winestock, who also runs the nearby event space Fun It Up, has put up some holiday decorations on the block including light-up holiday balloons and festive lights.

In Hyattsville and University Park, Santa will visit with the firefighters for his regular drive around the neighborhoods. There will be no in-person visits at the firehouse and the fire truck will not be able to stop to throw candy.

Instead, the Hyattsville Volunteer Fire Department has posted the route it will be taking on Saturday, Dec. 19, and Sunday, Dec. 20, with approximate times, and the truck will drive a little slower than usual, so kids can get a good look.

Earlier today, SoHy Co-op held its Stuff Your Stocking event to help support local businesses and give patrons the chance to shop outdoors from the sidewalk or pick-up gifts curbside. If you missed the event, be sure to check out local Hyattsville businesses online where you can purchase last-minute gifts.
