The latest addition to the list of popular family-oriented Christmas movies was written and directed by a native of Prince George’s County.
David E. Talbert, who grew up in Capitol Heights just south of the Route 1 corridor and is a Central High School alumni, wrote and directed the new Christmas movie “Jingle Jangle,” about an eccentric inventor.
Now streaming on Netflix, the film has been a hit with critics and audiences, as can be seen in its ratings on Rotten Tomatoes. Talbert and his wife, Lyn Sisson-Talbert, have also written a book and hope to adapt a Broadway stage version.
“It’s really a love letter to my childhood,” Talbert said of his new movie in an interview with NPR’s All Things Considered. “All the joy and the most fun times were all wrapped up in my childhood, so why wouldn’t I want to revisit it?”
Though he now lives in California, Talbert told NBC Washington that the area has influenced his work, referencing the D.C. condiment Mumbo sauce.
“I tell the people when I’m working on something, when I need it to be a little bit better, I tell them, ‘You gotta put some Mumbo sauce on that thing,’” he said.
