The coronavirus pandemic has changed a lot of our favorite spots on the Route 1 corridor.
The Hyattsville Wire normally holds its annual Best of Route 1 reader poll earlier on in the year, but with the pandemic we held off running anything since we were still under a partial lockdown.
Now we are bringing it back to close out the most unusual year, looking at how the corridor adapted during Covid and letting you tell us where your favorite places have been to go on the Route 1 corridor, especially during the pandemic.
Which restaurant has the best curbside pickup? Where’s the best place to go for a walk while socially distanced? Which local store has the best online shopping option?
This is our fourth annual poll and it always gets a lot of interesting reader feedback. (You can check out the 2017, 2018 and 2019 winners, if you’re curious.)
Picks must come from the following communities: Woodridge, D.C., Mount Rainier, Brentwood, North Brentwood, Bladensburg, Edmonston, Hyattsville, University Park, Riverdale Park, College Park, Berwyn Heights, Calvert Hills, Greenbelt, Laurel or Beltsville.
You can answer as many or as few questions as you like, but there’s a limit of one entry per person. To stop ballot-stuffing, we require an email address to take the survey, but we will not share your address with anyone or use it for any marketing purposes.
If you have any comments on why you chose a particular person, restaurant or shop, feel free to add them in your choice. We may quote some entries without using your name or email so that other readers can understand what made something the best.
Submit your entry by 11:59 p.m. Eastern on Friday, January 8. Poll winners will be announced on January 16 on the Hyattsville Wire. Two entrants will be randomly chosen to win a $25 gift certificate to a business on the Route 1 corridor.
And, finally, to all the small business owners who hustled to find new ways serve their customers, all the charities who pitched in to help those in need and all the residents who wore masks, ordered takeout and delivery and stayed home to keep everyone safe this year, thank you for keeping the heart of the Route 1 corridor beating. Here’s to a better 2021.
As always, thanks for reading the Hyattsville Wire and helping us find the Best of Route 1!
