Vegan soul food bakery and restaurant Dodah’s Kitchen will open its doors on Friday, Jan. 22., starting at 11 a.m.., in the former location of Bird Kitchen and Cocktails in Mount Rainier.
Because of county restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic, Dodah’s won’t be utilizing its indoor seating for now in the space at 3801 34th St., just a few doors down from the new Pennyroyal Station, but you can order takeout or delivery daily. In the spring, they’ll also offer outdoor seating.
Co-owner Gary Feld said they had planned to open the Mount Rainier restaurant since 2017, then a wholesale operation and another location in Baltimore, but logistical reasons ended up causing it to open last.
“We lived in Mount Rainier and wanted to start in a community we knew and understood,” he told the Hyattsville Wire. “But it worked out because it allowed us to launch our wholesale first and focus on that, and then launch our Baltimore cafe, where we learned a lot of lessons on launching and running a cafe.”
Dodah’s won’t have an official grand opening but will offer samples to anyone who drops by the restaurant any time.
Starting Friday, you can order for takeout or delivery at the restaurant, by calling 202-88-DODAH, on their website or through Doordash, Uber Eats, Grubhub.
Dodah’s kitchen will be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays.
