Mount Rainier Woodworker Designs 2Fifty Texas BBQ’s Sign

A Mount Rainier woodworker’s latest piece can be seen hanging outside 2Fifty Texas BBQ’s sign in Riverdale Park, which was installed last month marking the restaurant’s first official storefront sign since it opened in 2020.

While working as a mechanical engineer for 17 years, Gene Tehansky started woodworking as a hobby before turning to it full-time.

Along with his wife Sarah, Tehansky started Heatsky Makershop — the name is from the letters of their last name — to build everything from magnetic knife boards to sculpted chairs. For one project, he designed an elegant wood cabinet that hides a cat’s litter box.

The 2Fifty BBQ sign was made from African Sapele wood from Exotic Lumber in Annapolis, with the letters carved using a CNC machine.

As with his other projects, Tehansky posted photos showing the entire sign-making process from start-to-finish on Instagram.
