North Brentwood’s Material Things Hosts ‘Drop In’ From Lauded DC Filpino Eatery Bad Saint

D.C.’s celebrated Filipino restaurant Bad Saint will hold a “drop in” event this Thursday, February 25, at Material Things in North Brentwood where people can get a taste of the award-winning Columbia Heights eatery by pre-ordering for pickup.

Bad Saint, which has been recognized by Washington Post critic Tom Sietsema, Bon Appetit, the New York Times, the James Beard Foundation and Michelin’s Bib Gourmand awards over the years, has been holding events around D.C. where customers can pick up a pre-ordered meal.

The “drop-in” events are designed to highlight a local business; in this case, North Brentwood clay, wood and metals studio Material Things, located at 4531 Rhode Island Ave.

Options include a four-course “omnivore” dinner for two featuring spicy coconut carrot salad, octopus salad with purple potatoes, spice beef stew and coconut leche flan for $120; and a four-course vegan, gluten-free dinner with spicy coconut carrot salad, stir-fried Chinese broccoli, king oyster mushrooms, long beans and eggplant in peanut sauce, and a coconut-passion fruit “panna” cotta for $105.

Ceramic and wood items, pieces by textile artist An-Phuong Ly and cocktails from Hyattsville’s Sangfroid Distilling will also be sold on site.

Katie Aldworth, one of the three founders of Material Things, told the Hyattsville Wire the partnership came about since she’d been friends with the co-owner of Bad Saint, Genevieve Villamora, through the restaurant industry for some time and worked with them on pop-ups in D.C. She said Bad Saint chose the Route 1 corridor for their drop-in because they have lots of friends and regulars in the area and knew Material Things has a supportive community here.

Pickups will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. You can order dinner online here, art from Material Things here and a cocktail from Sangfroid online here.
