Construction on College Park’s new city hall is moving into the final stages.
Workers on the site at 4500 Knox Rd. have finished the framing and are beginning on the exterior.
The $47 million project, split between the city and the University of Maryland, is on track to finish this year, with no cost overruns or changes to the construction timeline so far, even with the coronavirus pandemic altering how workers interact.
The new city hall will consist of 38,000 square feet with an additional 45,000 square feet of office space for the University of Maryland and 7,000 square feet of retail on the ground level.
Apart from the need for new city offices, the project is designed to help remake the city’s main strip as it works with the university to become one of the country’s top-20 college towns.
