A new upscale salon opened this weekend in Mount Rainier specializing in hair of all textures, including kinky, curly, wavy and straight.

N&Co. salon, located at 3301 Rhode Island Ave., held its grand opening with a “red carpet” replete with ball gowns and a ribbon cutting.

Owner Ny Kenya-Chamberlain, who is Aveda-certified, has worked as an educator at D.C. area cosmetology schools before opening her own salon, which offers the Deva Cut and other services for clients with naturally curly hair.

“This place is a celebration for me,” she said at the grand opening. “It is a declaration that self-care is important. It is a declaration that differences matter.”

Weekday appointments at Ny & Co. come with a stimulating massage, while weekend appointments come with a complimentary glass of wine.

Like other salons, Ny & Co. is following Covid protocols, including disinfecting all surfaces every 15 minutes during peak time and wearing masks, face shields, gloves and smocks.
