The popular DC Sweet Potato Cake will open its Hyattsville bakery this Friday, April 30.
Co-owner April Richardson told the Hyattsville Wire that the bakery in the Magruder Flat Iron Building at 5105 Baltimore Ave. will be open from noon to 8 p.m. this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and the following weekend, May 7, 8 and 9.
The bakery will be open for takeout and delivery with indoor space to seat up to six people, and Richardson said she is currently working on an outdoor seating permit. While she plans to hold an official grand opening once she gets the outdoor permit, she’s offering 15 percent off everything this weekend to kick things off.
Formerly located inside the Brentwood food hall now known as miXt, DC Sweet Potato Cake has a wholesale operation in Baltimore that provides sweet potato cakes to places such as Starbucks, Safeway and Wegmans.
In addition to sweet potato cake, a D.C. specialty, the bakery will also offer other other delectable desserts such as sweet potato pie, cheesecakes and homemade layered cakes.
And when you go, be sure to check out the floor-to-ceiling wall mural inside by Marifel Bermudez, who goes by the professional name Marivella. She recently installed a three-dimensional blooming cherry blossom tree that stretches from roots on the floor to the purple and pink flowers on the ceiling.
